Go to Sweden . . . Feel Ugly!
Sweden . . . a country known for ABBA, the Volvo, Ikea and . . . the most attractive population I have ever come across! Yes, I felt like a stubby little troll standing next to the women of Sweden – tall, thin, blond and all perfectly proportional, not to mention fashionable because it is also the home of H&M. Now the men aren’t bad to look at either . . . many of them over 6’2 with sandy blond hair and brilliant blue eyes . . . okay, okay I’ll stop . . . I don’t mean to go goo-goo ga-ga over these people but it’s hard not to notice . . . they even have the best looking royal family in Europe . . . the princesses of England shouldn’t stand anywhere near Princess Victoria of Sweden. It seems that the average person here is what we’d consider highly attractive back home. It also seems that one out of every two people is good looking, so it must be quite hard to be average.
But enough about the gorgeous people . . . let me share a little bit about Stockholm. It was an absolutely beautiful day in Stockholm today . . . the water glimmered in the sunshine and there was a light breeze to keep the afternoon from getting too hot. Stockholm is very old European but also has a nice cosmopolitan feel to it . . . think Ikea décor in turn of the century apartments and store fronts. Joe and I made it to the center of town on a local bus and headed straight for the Gamla Stram (the old town), wandered through the streets, sat on benches in the Square and eventually, took a tour of the Royal Apartments at the Royal Palace. We had lunch at one of the oldest “confectionaries” in Stockholm . . . yes, a café and pastry shop . . . yum . . . I was in heaven! As many of you know, I love pastries and I could have eaten all of the goodies in the window . . . the lemon cheesecake, the fruit tart, the chocolate cake . . . but we settled on a raspberry tart and a slice of berry cake, both of which we savored until the last bite!
We found our way to Sodermalm (the artistic and bohemian area set atop a hill) and took breathtaking pictures of the city from Katerinahissen. We ended our day by sitting, once again, next to a fountain on the main plaza where Joe thoroughly enjoyed a chocolate ice cream cone . . . people watching of course . . . watching some very attractive people with their very attractive children and very attractive friends in their very attractive and stylish outfits . . . hmmmm . . . maybe I won’t be returning to Sweden too soon . . . my ego can’t take it =(.
